Relief valves offer protection from high pressures and excess flowrates. It is important to make sure that relief valves are properly sized, located, and open/closed as desired. AFT Fathom and AFT Arrow provide features to size relief valves in steady state. AFT Impulse enables users to find the optimal location and determine if the opening and closing profiles provide adequate protection during transients. Several modes of relief valves may be modeled including hydraulically balanced and imbalanced valves.
