Waterhammer: In our Booth?

by | Aug 20, 2019 | President's Perspective

What booth and why does it have waterhammer? Come find out!

In a few weeks, AFT and yours truly will be at the Turbomachinery and Pump Symposia (TPS) in Houston – September 10-12 to be precise. We will have a booth (#2824 for those who are coming). And we will have waterhammer. Not just waterhammer software. We have that every year and, as in previous years, we will be doing demos of AFT Impulse – one of the world’s leading simulation tools.

But this year we will have a Surge Wave stand. It is a physical device which shows how waterhammer works and how to measure it. This Surge Wave stand will be provided courtesy of BLACOH Surge Control. We will show how a waterhammer pressure surge occurs, measure it, then simulate it with AFT Impulse. Should be fun!

While you are there, please stop and hear me talk about waterhammer in a Tutorial I am presenting. It will happen on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:30AM in room 361A. The title is “UNDERSTANDING WATERHAMMER IN PUMPING SYSTEMS – AND SURGE SUPPRESSION OPTIONS”. My co-presenters will be Amy Marroquin and Frank Smith of BLACOH.

This waterhammer in a booth thing will be sure to draw attention. Hope to see you there!
